The rooms are mostly empty, the halls are quiet, the staff is secluded, and the residents live in fear. Enter the role of an undercover social worker, and try to figure out the source of this place's strangeness before more lives are lost.

Disco Elysium-inspired skill system: Use your Acuity, Action, and Appeal in dice rolls and passive checks. Solve the mystery your own way.

Face the Consequences: Manage both your Stress and Suspicion jars to keep investigating. Don't let either jar fill up, or face dire consequences.

Responsive Characters: Meet the varied cast of Almond Ridge, and learn about how their stories. Each character is hiding something, some more than others.

Idea Graveyard:

During a jam, some ideas just don't make it into the final product. Here are a few:

  • Space Station setting. It was just less attractive than the Nursing Home.
  • Scene where all the residents played a game of basketball/dodgeball against you. Canceled due to time and the realization that a game of dodgeball would kill most of the residents.
  • Simon as a fully sprited character, canceled due to fear of holding up the character sprite workload.
  • Skateboarding mini-game. As funny as I think it was, it ruined the tone of later days.
  • Item inventory. I just couldn't think of any way it could improve on game flow.
  • Voice acting. This stung, we were planning on getting some VAs but the cancellation of the voice-casting event shifted our timetable. Hopefully, we will add VA some other time.
  • More Backgrounds. Many backgrounds got cut, including Dr Lewis' office, the Shrine, the Police Station, the Bus, and the placebeyond_places. Our BG artist Queque already had a large amount on their plate, and the addition of more BGs would only sink our project.
  • Chess Minigame. I wanted Lester and the player to actually play chess, but the additional work and invalidation of current skill systems would not have been worth it.

I enjoyed the exploration and the mystery-solving aspects of this visual novel. The game mechanics, including the dice roll, kept things fresh. My favorite part was a certain section of the game when I went to Susanna's room and something in there took me off-guard. I must've missed the explanation for what was happening there. Nonetheless, I was creeped out.

I solved the mystery through two slightly different endings, but I'm not sure I fully understood what was going on in the end. Perhaps I should've been taking notes.

Reading the list of canceled features was interesting. I'm wondering how different the experience would have been if the team pushed through with a few of these features.

Thanks to the team for releasing this game. I had a nice time checking it out!

A very intriguing story and intricate gameplay system! I really enjoyed the personalities of each of the residents and their personal stories. The aesthetic and character designs are super cool and well made.

The stat / rpg system is a VERY interesting concept, but may need some tweaking when it comes to balancing rolls.
With such a complex system there's bound to be some bugs, but I hope you'll be able to squash them in updates!

The game is now fixed, but I was able to solve the mystery in the previous version

Of course, it didn't appear to me. Congratulations, you solved the mystery, but still

The game is very wonderful.. The dialogues and characters, but the ending was expected👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤

Yesterday I rated the game five stars for everything

on the sixth day, I could not talk to anyone. An error message appears If you try to talk to anyone, the game does not progress.

I hope to fix this error

thanx dev

Howdy! There isn't technically supposed to be a sixth day, the game is supposed to end when you end the fifth day.

What happened at the fifth day for you?

The game is in an endless loop

That's not the current version, did you just download the game?

Yes I just downloaded it and have the gamesave

I will download it again and play from the beginning

Something unique about this game deserves to win

Really liked the game! Makes you think, but also makes you risk it.

Game design wise it's marvellously done, the game mechanics are pretty clear, you'll have to balance your actions and learn to know when to risk it and when to stay in the mold for another day. And it won't be an easy choice!

The music is really nice, and knows when to disturb your thoughts pretty well. The art is quite amazing, I really liked both, backgrounds AND characters.

Storywise? Nothing like a good mystery, and nothing like solving it undercover. Won't say much to avoid spoiling, but it's going to be a wild ride!
